If you ask them what is your favorite box of AmeriCandy – they are apt to say in their native language – Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cream. Who knows — “this may be a rumor.“ As to flavors in chocolate – raspberry ranks 11th – we intend to raise this ranking in 2011. We need your help. Thanks. In the Lumbee language, it sounds like “THANKS“
An historical anecdote tells of colonial patriots dumping barrels of tar into a stream that the Redcoats were planning to cross during the Revolutionary War. The Americans hoped that the tar would stop the British, literally in their tracks. It worked, and from then on, or so the story goes, anyone walking in North Carolina streams got "tar heels." Along with the tar, this nickname stuck, and thus we have the Tar Heel State.
